Outside, the lodge benefits from its own wraparound decking complete with a barbecue and with wonderful views over the surrounding farmland. Facilities on the farm include an outdoor heated swimming pool, a well-stocked fishing lake with roach, perch, carp, and tench, a children’s play area, and a dedicated dog exercise field.
The farm has been in the same family for over forty years specialising in raising Charolais beef cattle, reared slowly on pastures using sustainable farming practices.The owners are on hand to show guests around the farm and with chickens wandering the grounds there are often eggs to be collected. An on-site shop sells meat produced on the farm alongside local produce and a range of essential groceries.
There are plenty of walking and cycling trails right on the doorstep including the Stover Trail, a mostly traffic-free route that connects Newton Abbot with Bovey Tracey passing through woodland, heathland, grassland, and marshes.
The rugged landscape of Dartmoor National Park, famous for its heather-clad hills, deep river valleys, granite tors, prehistoric monuments, and iconic wild ponies is a 10 minute drive away. The park has miles of marked trails as well as opportunities for wild swimming, star gazing, and horse riding.
For a day at the seaside, Torquay is a must. With an exceptionally warm microclimate, the popular resort has a lively marina, several sandy beaches, easy access to the South West Coast Path, and a range of attractions including Babbacombe Model Village, Kents Caverns, Torre Abbey, and the Agatha Christie literary trail close by.
Newton Abbot is a historic market town with a good range of shops from high street names to independent retailers, indoor and outdoor markets, pubs, and restaurants. The town also has a railway station with direct trains to Totnes, Plymouth, Exeter, and Bodmin Parkway.
