Situated on a working smallholding on the banks of the River Coquet, Barley Cottage is a beautifully converted granary. Thoughtfully restored with contemporary interiors, the cottage retains many original features including exposed timber beams, vaulted ceilings, the original granary wheel, and a red brick inglenook fireplace housing a wood burning stove.
Ideal for a family of couple looking to explore the Northumbrian countryside and coast with opportunities for walking, cycling, bird watching, fishing, and water sports nearby.
Outside, the cottage benefits from a private enclosed patio with lovely views of the surrounding countryside and farmland with chickens wandering the grounds.
Guests should note that the property is accessed via a rough farm track and the stairs to the upper floor are steep and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. For those bringing a dog, moveable stairgates are available to close off rooms.
Barley Cottage is close to the Northumberland Coast Path, which leads to the sandy beach at Alnmouth in one direction and to Alnwick, home to the famous castle featured in the Harry Potter films, in the other. Northumberland National Park, famous for its dark skies, abundance of wildlife, Roman ruins, and unspoilt landscape can be reached in around half an hour.
Warkworth, is a 20-minute walk along the river. Overlooked by a ruined medieval fortress it has a village store and several welcoming pubs serving food.
