Why you'll love staying here

Situated in s small hamlet just two mies from Marazion, Thatch Cottage is a traditional whitewashed cottage on a working dairy farm surrounded by lush green fields. Thoughtfully restored to retain timber beams, exposed stone walls, and an inglenook fireplace now used as a cosy seating area, it’s ideal for a family or group of friends looking to explore Cornwall’s beautiful countryside and coast.

Outside, the cottage benefits from a large, lawned garden complete with a barbecue and beautiful views towards the sea. Guests should note, that although the garden is enclosed, it is not fenced so a determined dog could find a way to escape. Cows can be seen in the adjacent fields and guests are welcome to watch them being milked twice a day.

Marazion is a historic coastal town with a long sandy beach ideal for swimming, rockpooling, and surfing. Walk the ancient causeway at low tide or take a short motorboat ride to St Michael’s Mount with its iconic castle, medieval church, and subtropical terraced gardens.

To the west of the town is the RSPB’s nature reserve, Marzion Marshes, the largest reedbed on Cornwall with areas of open water and grassland. It supports a large variety of wetland and wading birds and is one of the best spots in the West Country so see starling murmurations in autumn and winter.

Marazion has a good range of independent shops and places to eat as well as a small museum and art gallery showcasing works by local Cornish artists. There are several surfing beaches within easy reach including Praa Sands, Perranuthnoe, and Sennen Cove.

From Thatch Cottage, the South West Coast Path leads directly to the market town of Penzance famed for its quirky architecture and antique shops. From here, helicopters and ferries depart for the Isles of Scilly with white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, subtropical gardens, and abundance of wildlife. Keep an eye out for porpoises, dolphins, whales, and seals. Penzance also has a railway station with direct trains to Hayle, Truro, St Austell, and Bodmin Parkway.
