Shire Cottage is a stylish barn conversion set on a working farm in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside. This cosy stone retreat is perfect for a couple or small family in search of peace and rural charm. Inside, neutral décor is beautifully offset by exposed wooden beams and comfortable furnishings, while the windows frame lovely views across the surrounding fields. On cooler evenings, an electric wood-burner stove creates a warm, inviting atmosphere, ideal for curling up with a film or a board game.
While the cottage itself doesn’t have a garden, there are countless walks straight from the doorstep. Just two miles away lies the market town of Matlock, famed for its thermal springs. Here you’ll find independent shops, welcoming cafés and restaurants, a local museum, and the picturesque Hall Leys Park, complete with a children’s play area, splash pool, skate park, boating lake, and a miniature railway.
A short drive east brings you to the Peak District National Park, where historic landmarks, and charming villages are set amongst countless hills to hike. A highlight of the area is the magnificent Chatsworth Estate. Spend the day exploring its gardens, farmyard with friendly animals, and acres of parkland. Inside the grand house you’ll find one of Europe’s most important art collections, while outdoors you’ll discover impressive water features, sculptures, and sweeping views at every turn.
