Situated just six miles from Alniwck, Garden Cottage is a charming single-storey, stone-built cottage on a working farm. Thoughtfully restored to retain original features including exposed stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and timber beams. Ideal for a couple or solo traveller looking to explore the beautiful Northumbrian countryside and coast.

Outside, the cottage benefits from a large lawned garden with a bird table that attracts a wide variety of species. The farm is home to herds of pedigree South Devon cattle and Lleyn sheep, and has a medieval castle and 12th century church in the grounds.

Alnwick is a charming cobbled market town, dominated by the medieval Alnwick Castle, famously used as the main filming location for Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. The town is also home to the award-winning Alnwick Garden, where visitors can explore attractions such as the Poison Garden, the Grand Cascade water fountain, and the world’s largest Tai Haku cherry orchard.

Nearby Rothbury, known as the gateway to Northumberland National Park, has a good range of independent shops, pubs, and restaurants. Tucked below the Simonside and Lordenshaw Hills it sits on the banks of the River Coquet which has excellent salmon and trout fishing. Cragside House on the outskirts of the town is also well worth a visit. Often described as Britain’s original smart home, the Victorian estate has a grand Tudor Revival county house illuminated by hydroelectricity and powered by hydraulics set in extensive woodland and gardens.

Several excellent dog-friendly beaches are just a short distance from Garden Cottage. Foxton Beach boasts a beautiful stretch of golden sand, backed by a golf course, and at low tide reveals plenty of rock pools to explore. Meanwhile, Alnmouth Beach, set within a wide sandy bay, is perfect for a family day out, with plenty of space for building sandcastles, flying a kite, or enjoying a picnic.
