Crumble Cottage is a converted milking parlour set on a 15-acre smallholding on the outskirts of the hamlet of Bethania in Mid Wales. Lovingly restored, the cottage offers a comfortable holiday home that retains many of its original features, including exposed beams and stone walls.
At the heart of the home is the country-style kitchen, fully equipped with modern appliances to make preparing home-cooked meals a pleasure. Guests are welcomed with a thoughtful hamper filled with local produce for your first breakfast, including bacon, sausages, eggs, bread, butter, milk, orange juice and beans, as well as homemade cakes.
The spacious sitting room provides plenty of space for the whole family to unwind, with squishy sofas and a recliner gathered around a cosy fireplace, the perfect setting for a film night or a few board games after a day of exploring.
All three bedrooms have been designed with comfort in mind, and children will adore their room with cleverly designed cabin beds. Secluded and peaceful, the cottage promises restful nights, with only birdsong or the lowing of cattle gently waking you in the morning.
Outside, a large, enclosed garden offers ample space for dogs to run around and children to play. For those who like to stay active, there is a well-equipped gym so you can kick-start your day with a workout. The owners also have a massage studio offering Kahuna massage, a deeply relaxing Hawaiian treatment designed to ease tension and restore balance, as well as a traditional Finnish-style sauna to soothe tired muscles after a hike or bike ride.
Guests are welcome to explore the smallholding, home to a variety of animals including snuffly pigs, curious cows, ducks, hens and a very friendly farm dog. The owners are always on hand to answer any questions about rural life in this beautiful part of Ceredigion.
If you can bear to tear yourself away from this delightful sanctuary, there is plenty to enjoy in the surrounding area.
The beautiful Georgian-styled seaport of Aberaeron, famous for its colourful houses, is only a 15-minute drive away. Stroll along the harbour wall, browse the independent shops and craft centre, and sample the local seafood at one of the many welcoming cafés, restaurants and bars. Just three miles from the town centre is Llanerchaeron, an elegant Georgian villa designed by John Nash and now managed by the National Trust. The estate has acres of parkland, wildlife-rich woodland, and a beautiful walled garden that has been producing fruit and vegetables for over 200 years.
Cardigan Bay offers an abundance of beaches. Discover clean, sandy shores with clear waters, caves, waterfalls, rugged cliffs, and family-friendly rock pools. You might even spot dolphins, and there are plenty of opportunities for watersports, including kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, and windsurfing.
Inland from Crumble Cottage lies the Welsh-speaking market town of Tregaron, surrounded by some of the most spectacular and unspoilt scenic routes in Wales. Tregaron also hosts traditional trotting races in the summer, a memorable day out for all.
For the more adventurous, the Cambrian Mountains offer magnificent walking and cycling trails, breathtaking scenery, reservoirs, rivers and pools. There are also plenty of cycling routes directly from the cottage. The owners provide maps and route suggestions, and they offer guided e-bike tours for those who want to enjoy the area’s stunning views and hidden gems without venturing out alone.
Distances are calculated “as the crow flies”, so actual driving, cycling, and walking distances may differ.
