Once owned by Beatrix Potter, Yew Tree Farm is a Grade II listed farmhouse situated in a quiet valley near Coniston, right in the heart of the Lake District. Dating back to the early 17th century, the house is full of character, with original features such as panelled walls, open fireplaces, a solid oak staircase, pitched ceilings, and exposed cruck beams.

The interiors are beautifully styled in keeping with the period, blending heritage charm with elegance including antique furniture, rich textiles, and carefully chosen prints. The master bedroom boasts a grand four-poster bed, and there are even personal touches from Beatrix Potter herself, most notably, the dining table that once stood in her own teashop.

Outside, the large lawned garden is dotted with benches where you can sit and soak up the lovely surroundings. There’s also a private enclosed patio with a barbecue, ideal for al fresco dining. And for a touch of indulgence, you’ll find a hot tub, perfect for unwinding with a glass of something bubbly after a day out on the fells.

Yew Tree is a 700-acre working hill farm, home to Herdwick sheep and a herd of Belted Galloway cattle. Owned by the National Trust, the farm has several historic outbuildings, including a traditional barn with a spinning gallery once used to dry wool. The tenant farmers offer tours where you can learn more about the animals, and there’s an on-site butcher selling the farm’s own meat.

The farmhouse is an ideal base for exploring the Lake District, with Hawkshead, Ambleside, Windermere, and Grasmere all nearby. Whether you're into sailing, watersports, hiking, cycling, climbing, or fishing, there's no shortage of outdoor adventures on the doorstep.
