Sunnywell is a beautifully converted barn set on a working livestock farm just two miles from Lanivet, considered the centre of Cornwall. Surrounded by open countryside in a peaceful rural setting, it provides an excellent base for couples, families, or friends looking to explore this picturesque region, with charming villages, historic sites, and extensive walking trails on the doorstep.
The accommodation is arranged in reverse level to take full advantage of the views across the farmland, with French doors in the open plan living space that floor the barn with natural light. Original features have been retained including a vaulted ceiling with timber beams and exposed stone walls. Guests should note that the ground floor bedrooms are reached via a spiral staircase.
The family-run farm is home to cattle which can be seen grazing in the surrounding fields. Guests are welcome to explore the explore the farm’s trails and its abundance of wildlife - keep an eye out for deer, rabbits, wood mice, bees, butterflies, and a variety of birds.
Bodmin Moor is a 20 minute drive away, known for its rugged landscape, granite tors, prehistoric landmarks, free roaming ponies, and myths and legends. Hike to Brown Willy and Rough Tor, Cornwall’s highest peaks, stop by the 18th century Jamaica Inn made famous in Daphne du Maurier’s novel of the same name, and pose for a photography by the Cheesewring, an impressive natural geological formation of stacked granite rocks.
Sunnywell is also well placed for visiting the Eden project (18 mins) with the world’s largest indoor rainforest, the Mediterranean Biome housing temperate plants from around the world, and stunning out door gardens. A little further is The Lost Gardens of Helicon comprising 200 acre estate with a sub-tropical garden, Victorian pleasure grounds, and wetland habitats.
For a day at the coast Charlestown can be reached in around half an hour. The picturesque 18th century harbour village, which was used as a filming location in Poldark, has a fascinating shipwreck museum and a pretty shingle beach with direct access to the South West Coast Path.
The village of Lanivet is just under two miles away and has a welcoming 18th-century inn, serving a selection of local beers and ciders alongside classic pub dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. With a spacious beer garden and regular quiz nights, it’s a great place to soak up the local atmosphere.
