Situated in the village of Bray Shop, seven miles from Launceston, Skiber Long is stylish, single-storey barn conversion on a working farm. Thoughtfully restored retaining vaulted ceilings and exposed timber beams and lintels, the open-plan living space is airy and bright thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows, while a wood burning stove keeps things warm on cooler days. Outside, Skiber Long benefits from an enclosed garden complete with a barbecue with stunning views across the surrounding farmland. Facilities on site include a games room, a children’s play area with a climbing frame, swings, slide, and football nets, and an indoor heated swimming pool operated on a booking system with one other cottage.

The farm is home to sheep with the opportunity to meet lambs in spring. Guests are welcome to explore the grounds with meadows, woodland, plenty of spots for a picnic, and fishing on the river that runs through the farm.
Known as the ‘gateway to Cornwall’, Launceston is an ancient market town dominated by a Norman castle overlooking the high street. There are also the remains of a defensive wall, a 14th century gatehouse, and a row of Georgian houses that Sir John Betjeman described as the the most perfect collection of townhouses in Cornwall. The town has an excellent range of independent shops, traditional pubs, quaint cafés, and fine restaurants, as well as weekly markets.

Just a few miles away is the wild, rugged landscape of Bodmin Moor, home to granite tors, prehistoric landmarks, abundance of wildlife and free roaming ponies. Stop off for a pint of cider at Jamaica Inn, an 18th century coaching inn that inspired Daphne Du Maurier’s novel of the same name. Or go back in time at Bodmin Jail, to get a glimpse into what life was like for a Victorian prisoner.

The coast can be reached in around an hour, where the beaches at Port Isaac, Tintagel, and Boscastle, offer opportunities for swimming, rockpooling, and excellent coastal walks.

Other attractions nearby include Hidden Valley Discovery Park, Tamar Otter and Wildlife Centre, Trethorne Leisure Park, and Dartmoor National Park.

A traditional country pub with a well stocked bar and a restaurant is about three and half mlles away. For other amenities, including supermarkets, a car is required to drive into Callington or Launceston.
