Rowan

Low Flan Farm,
Ulverston,
Cumbria,
England

Why you’ll love staying here

Situated on a hillside just a mile from the centre of Ulverston, Rowan is a charming glamping pod on a progressive working farm with beautiful views over the surrounding fields. Ideal for a couple or solo traveller looking to explore the Lake District and Cumbria’s stunning coastline.

The pod has been fitted with a well-equipped kitchen, living, and sleeping space in a studio style layout, Water is supplied from a fresh Lakeland spring on the farm.

Outside, Rowan benefits from its own private patio complete with dining furniture and a hot tub.

Low Flan Farm comprises 29 acres that is home to breeding cattle and beef stock, breeding ewes, donkeys, and free range chickens. Guests who visit in spring are welcome to visit the lambing shed to meet the new born lambs, while those who visit in summer will be able to see the sheep being sheared. The owners also keep bees with honey from the farm available to purchase.

The dramatic fells, glacial lakes, picturesque valleys, and ancient forests of the Lake District National Park are on the doorstep with opportunities for hiking, cycling, and climbing. Highlights include Lake Windermere, a popular spot for sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and cruises, Grizedale Forest, home to a thriving population of red squirrels, Munster Castle, set in beautiful gardens with a birds of prey centre, and Hill Top, Beatrix Potter’s farmhouse retreat and inspiration for her Peter Rabbit books. The park is also home to ancient stone circles, heritage railways, wildflower meadows, and some fascinating museums that chart the history and culture of the area.

Cumbria’s largely unspoilt coastline is also within easy reach. Marking the start of the Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walk, St Bees lies beneath red sandstone cliffs with an RSPB reserve supporting a range of seabirds. Hop on the La'al Ratty at Ravenglass, a pretty coastal village with extensive sand flats and a Roman bathhouse. Seascale is a long stretch of golden sand with a jetty popular with sea anglers.

Ulverston is a market town with a cobbled high street lined with a good range of independent shops, cafés, and traditional pubs. It also has a thriving festival scene hosting a year round programme of cultural, musical, and community events. The town has a railway station with direct trains to Barrow-in-Furness, Lancaster, Preston, and Manchester Airport.
