Lying in the hamlet of Woodford, just six miles from Bude, Rose Cottage is a spacious barn conversion on a historic 17th century working farm.
Thoughtfully restored to retain original features including timber beams and lintels, Cornish slate floors, exposed stonework, and a brick fireplace now housing a wood burning stove. Ideal for a family or group of friends looking to explore Cornwall’s beautiful countryside and coast.
Outside, Lavender Cottage benefits from a walled orchard garden and a private patio with plenty of seating. Facilities on site include a games room, indoor heated swimming pool, children’s playing field, and extensive grounds with a sunken garden, picnic and barbecue areas, a lake, stream, meadows, and patches of woodland which come alive with bluebells in spring. Dogs are welcome to explore the grounds too, but must be kept on a lead around the livestock. Guests are advised to bring wellies as it can get muddy in places.
The farm is home to a variety of animals including horses, Shetland ponies, alpacas, pygmy goats, sheep, kunekune pigs, rabbits, and free-range chickens, Guests are encourage to get involved in twice weekly feeding sessions, with additional opportunities to groom, walk, and play with them.
Bude is a charming coastal town, known for its excellent surfing and family-friendly atmosphere. Summerleaze, the main beach, is a wide stretch of golden sand backed by dunes with a semi-natural, tidal pool that’s a safe haven for swimming, and traditional beach huts that can be hired on a ‘per night’ basis.
Overlooking the beach is The Castle Bude, a Grade II listed building converted into a heritage centre that explores local history and culture, and hosts a programme of events including vintage fairs, live music, and workshops.
The South West Coast Path passes through Bude with direct walks to Widemouth Bay, Crackington Haven, and over the border into Devon. Along the way you’ll be rewarded with dramatic views of the Atlantic ocean, rugged cliffs, and the chance to spot seals and dolphins.
Other attractions reached within the hour include Tintagel Castle, The Milkyway Adventure Park, Tamar Lakes, Pencarrow House and Garden, and the wild landscapes of Bodmin Moor.
Nearby Kilkhampton has a village store and two inns serving food, For all other amenities, Bude has a good range of shops, including supermarkets, lively pubs, cafés, and restaurants.
