Ridge Farmhouse

Clodock,
Herefordshire,
England

Why you'll love staying here

Ridge Farmhouse is a beautifully restored 17th-century farmhouse set on a working farm in the small hamlet of Clodock, in the foothills of the Black Mountains. With stunning views from every room, abundant wildlife across the farm, and wonderful walking trails right on the doorstep, it is perfectly placed for families or groups of friends looking to explore this beautiful part of Herefordshire.

Brimming with character, the house retains many original features, including timber beams, exposed brickwork, and flagstone floors, which sit beautifully alongside the elegant décor, thoughtfully chosen antique pieces, and touches of greenery throughout, creating a wonderfully comfortable home.

Entering through the oak front door, guests are welcomed by a practical boot room with plenty of space for wellies, coats, and outdoor equipment. The heart of the home is the spacious kitchen. With shaker-style cabinets, butcher’s block worktops, a range cooker, and modern appliances, the designated chef will feel right at home preparing delicious home-cooked meals. Traditional touches include a painted wooden dresser and a farmhouse dining table, the perfect spot for hearty breakfasts together or a pre-dinner drink while cooking is underway. Just off the kitchen is a beautiful oak-framed sunroom with dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows, ideal for relaxing with a morning coffee. There is also a utility room with a larder and a handy area perfect for mixing cocktails.

Adjacent to the kitchen is the more formal dining room, centred around a large oak table. A piano adds to the charm, inviting musical guests to play while everyone gathers for an evening of entertainment.

The sitting room offers plenty of comfortable seating arranged around a cosy wood-burning stove. With soft furnishings and lovely views over the garden and surrounding farmland, it is a welcoming space to relax in the evenings, whether watching a film together or enjoying a board game. There is also a snug with its own wood-burning stove, a peaceful retreat for curling up with a good book.

Completing the ground floor is a stylish shower room.

Upstairs are four bedrooms, two of which benefit from en-suite bathrooms. Each room has been designed with a restful night’s sleep in mind, with calm tones, deep mattresses, crisp white linens, and soft blankets for cooler nights, to be woken by birdsong and the gentle sound of cattle lowing in the fields. The family bathroom on this floor offers both a bath and a separate shower.

Outside, the farmhouse truly has the wow factor. A fantastic oak-framed covered dining area creates a relaxed Mediterranean feel, perfect for long, lazy lunches while staying shaded from the sun. The extensive cottage garden has several terraces with seating areas surrounded by beds overflowing with colourful flowers. There is also a summer house, a fish pond with a water feature, and a hot tub for relaxing evening soaks beneath the stars.

The farm itself is home to beef cattle and sheep and is run with sustainability and conservation in mind, resulting in an abundance of wildlife. Look out for buzzards and red kites soaring overhead, great spotted woodpeckers and tawny owls in the woodland, and herons patiently waiting beside the wildlife ponds for frogs and newts. In spring, you may even hear the distinctive call of the cuckoo. From the banks of the farm, guests can look down to the River Monnow, where brown trout swim and otters are sometimes seen.

Numerous mountain walks begin from the footpath that runs through the farm and up towards Hatterrall Hill, where breathtaking views stretch across Herefordshire. A pleasant walk along quiet country lanes leads to Clodock, home to a traditional pub, while other pubs, shops, and restaurants are just a short drive away.
