Situated just 10 miles from some of Cornwall’s best dog-friendly beaches, Lower West Curry Farmhouse is a traditional cottage on a 18-acre working livestock farm with stunning views towards Bodmin Moor. Best suited to an extended family or group of friends looking for a peaceful Cornish escape.
Well-equipped and with comfortable furnishings, the farmhouse retains a wealth of original features including timber beams, vaulted ceilings, exposed brick work, and an inglenook fireplace housing a wood burning stove. Guests should note that due to the age of the property, the floorboards may be uneven and creaky in places, and there is limited height in some areas of the first floor bedrooms.
Outside is a spacious, secure garden is ideal for children and dogs with a covered terrace with dining furniture, and feeders that attract dozens of species of birds.
The farm is home to cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, and ducks, and guests are encouraged to participate at feeding time. Depending on the time of year, there may also be new born lambs and piglets to meet. Keen field sports enthusiasts are welcome to bring their dogs, and shooting can be arranged through the owners during the season if required.
Launceston, 7 miles away, is a historic market town with narrow streets, grand Georgian villas, a 14th century gatehouse, and the remains of a defensive wall. The ruins of a Norman castle overlook the town, and there is a good selection of independent shops and places to eat, as well as regular markets.
The popular seaside town of Bude can be reached in around 20 minutes which has wide sandy beaches, facilities for waterspouts including surfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding, and direct access to the South West Coast Path.
Bodmin Moor is about half an hour away renowned for its rugged landscape, granite tors, waterfalls, and historic landmarks. The moor has a variety of walking and cycling trails and is excellent for wildlife spotting. Keep an eye out for moorland birds, birds of prey, waders, rare butterflies, and free-roaming ponies.
Due to its secluded location, a car will be needed for amenities and getting around, and public transport services are limited.
