Situated just under 10 miles from Blairgowrie, Islabank Farmhouse is a beautifully appointed country retreat on 2,000 acre farm estate in the Vale of Strathmore.
With elegant interiors, period features, and an open fire, it’s an ideal base for a family or group of friends looking to explore central Scotland.
Outside, the farmhouse benefits from a fully enclosed half acre garden with mature fruit trees and flower beds, and secured with rabbit netting so even small dogs can’t escape.
Strathisla is a family-run grassland and arable farm, home to pedigree Charolais and Simmental beef cattle herds, alongside a commercial suckler herd. Guests visiting in spring will have the opportunity to see new born calves, while those arriving in late summer will experience the excitement of harvest in full swing.
Keep an eye out for the abundance of wildlife in the grounds, including hares, red squirrels, deer, and various birds of prey. Keen anglers or those who wish to try their hand can enjoy salmon fishing on the River Isla which runs through the farm.
There are excellent walking and cycling trails in the surrounding area. Walk the riverside path to the dramatic gorge at Cargill’s Leap, or tackle part of the Cateran Trail along old drove roads through forest and open moorland. For summer hill walking or winter snow sports, Glen Shee is just 20 miles away.
Several historic buildings are within easy reach of Strathisla Farm, including Ardblair Castle, Blackcraig Castle, Glamis Castle, and Scone Palace, while the Cairngorms National Park renowned for its ancient pine forests, arctic-alpine mountains, clear lochs, and rare tundra wildllife is just over an hour away.
The stunning Angus coastline is less than an hour’s drive known for its sandy beaches, red sandstone cliffs, pretty harbour towns, and opportunities to spot marine life such as bottlenose dolphins, harbour porpoises, grey seals, and minke whales. Dundee is also well worth a visit with the V&A Design Museum, McManus Art Gallery, Mills Observatory, and world-class waterfront architecture.
The village of Meigle has a welcoming pub serving food and a small convenience shop. Other amenities, including supermarkets, can be found in Blairgowrie.
