A charming stone cottage with a wood burning stove on a working farm with views towards ancient woodland.
Escape to this beautifully restored bothy on a working farm in rural Northumberland. Surrounded by woodland and open countryside, it’s a peaceful retreat with an outdoor Victorian clay bathtub on the terrace, perfect for a long soak beneath the county’s famous dark skies.
Inside, traditional features including oak beams, flagged floors, exposed stone and a wood burner are combined with modern comforts and stylish furnishings. The open-plan living space includes a cosy seating area, dining space and well-equipped shaker-style kitchen, while the bathroom features a walk-in double rainfall shower behind a sliding barn door.
Upstairs, the mezzanine bedroom has a king-size bed overlooking the living area below. Please note there are low beams in the bedroom due to the character of the building.
The bothy is ideally placed for walking and cycling, with the John Martin Heritage Trail passing the door. Allen Banks and Staward Gorge is nearby for woodland walks along the River Allen, and wild swimming spots can be reached on foot in around 20 minutes. Northumberland National Park is a 20-minute drive away, where you can explore Hadrian's Wall, Housesteads Roman Fort, Vindolanda and The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre.
Just under 3 miles from Langley Castle and within walking distance of the local village inn, the bothy is also less than 10 miles from Hexham, with its shops, cafés, restaurants and historic attractions including Hexham Abbey and Hexham Old Gaol. Popular villages including Corbridge, Haydon Bridge and Haltwhistle are all within easy reach, while day trips to Newcastle upon Tyne, Beamish Museum and the North East coast are all possible within an hour’s drive.
