Situated on the outskirts of Alnmouth, Garden Cottage is a stylish rural retreat on a working farm. Beautifully furnished with bright and airy contemporary interiors, while a wood burning stove keeps things warm on cooler days. An ideal base for a family or couple looking to explore the stunning Northumbrian countryside and coast. Guests should note that there is a step up to enter the cottage, but once inside it may be accessible for wheelchair users.

Outside, the cottage benefits from an enclosed lawned garden with lovely views over the surrounding fields. The farm is home to sheep, cows, and chickens, including cockerels who may occasionally wake guests up early in the morning. Set in a wildlife conservation area, there is also an abundance of flora and fauna in the grounds including lapwings, skylarks, grey partridges, adders, and plenty of wildflowers.

Alnmouth is a picturesque coastal village set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with pastel-coloured fishermen’s cottages lining the banks of the River Aln that runs through the village.

It has some excellent beaches with the main beach a vast stretch of golden sand that’s dog-friendly all year round, ideal for scenic walks and family days out. South of the estuary lies a quieter beach, backed by sand dunes that’s a haven for birdlife.

For golfers, Alnmouth Golf Club in Foxton Bay is one of the oldest golf clubs in England. The 9-hole links course offers challenging play, together with spectacular views across to Coquet Island.

In the village, visitors can explore The Ferryman’s Hut, the smallest museum in Northumberland, which houses pictures, memorabilia, and trinkets relating to boating life. Another highlight is The Old School Gallery, with a collection of affordable art and prints by local artists.

Around 20 minutes up the coast is Craster, a small fishing village famous for its oak-smoked kippers, while a little further is Seahouses, from where boat trips depart to the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne.

Just under five miles away lies Alnwick with its magnificent castle used as a filming location in the Harry Potter films, contemporary botanical gardens, and one of the largest secondhand bookshops in Britain.

Northumberland National Park famous for its wild, open moorland, exceptional dark skies, and excellent walking and cycling trails can be reached in under an hour, while the forts, bathhouses, temples, and other Roman ruins running along Hadrian’s Wall are all within easy reach.

Alnmouth has a good selection of independent shops, pubs, and places to eat, and for those who want to leave the car at home, the railway station has direct services to Berwick-upon-Tweed, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Edinburgh.
