Colveston Manor is a beautifully appointed farmhouse set on a working sheep and cattle farm, ideal for families or groups of friends wishing to explore the stunning Norfolk countryside. Dating back to the 17th century, this elegant home is approached via a long, tree-lined drive edged with mature oaks and surrounded by grazing meadows and ancient woodland.
At the heart of the house is a spacious kitchen that marries traditional charm with modern style. A large range cooker and contemporary appliances make meal preparation effortless, while the generous farmhouse-style dining table and separate breakfast island offer flexible dining options. A cosy wood-burning stove adds warmth and atmosphere, making evening meals especially inviting. Adjacent is a useful utility room with ample storage for bicycles and outdoor equipment.
The sitting room is a delightful retreat, with comfortable seating and large windows framing magnificent views over open farmland, an ideal spot to unwind with a film or a competitive board game. This room also has a wood-burning stove for snug nights in, and during the Christmas season it is decorated to give a festive touch.
Upstairs are five bedrooms, three of which have en-suite facilities. Each room is designed with comfort in mind, with quality bedding, feature fireplaces, and antique furnishings. All enjoy views across the farm, where cows and sheep can be seen grazing in the fields. A large family bathroom offers both a bathtub and a sleek shower, ensuring you start your day feeling refreshed.
Outside, a generous garden is mainly laid to lawn with mature trees and shrubs, along with a patio furnished for outdoor dining and equipped with a barbecue. It’s the perfect place for al fresco meals or for enjoying a glass of wine in the evening as the sun sets over the farm.
From the manor, there are numerous walking and cycling trails winding through woods, fields, and meadows. Wildlife is plentiful: deer are often seen on the farm, and you may hear the haunting call of a barn owl hunting at dusk.
Nearby lies Thetford Forest, the UK’s largest man-made lowland forest, a patchwork of pines, broadleaved trees, and heathland. It’s a popular destination for mountain biking and home to a Go Ape high-ropes adventure course. Birdwatchers are well catered for too, with the forest known for its scarce breeding species including woodlarks, nightjars, goshawks, and siskins.
Less than an hour away is the beautiful Norfolk coastline, with its quaint fishing villages, salt marshes, mudflats, and a variety of beaches. Visit Blakeney Point to see England’s largest seal colony, or head to the RSPB reserve at Titchwell Marsh where bearded tits can be spotted amongst the reedbeds and marsh harriers circle over the lagoons searching for prey. For a traditional seaside day out, Great Yarmouth offers a classic Pleasure Beach amusement park and a long stretch of golden sand.
The Norfolk Broads National Park is also within easy reach, offering a network of navigable rivers and lakes perfect for canoeing, paddleboarding, sailing, or simply relaxing on a leisurely boat trip before stopping at a riverside pub. The Broads is the only national park in England that includes a city, and no visit to Norfolk is complete without exploring Norwich. With its wealth of museums, historical sites, independent shops, excellent dining options, and its magnificent 11th-century cathedral, it makes for a memorable day out.
