Brian’s Cottage at Bilton Barns is a mid-terrace, stone-built cottage with beautiful views across the surrounding fields. Situated on a working farm, the cottage is conveniently located just a mile from Alnmouth railway station for those who wish to travel without a car.
With light and airy interiors, stylish furnishings, and an original fireplace housing a wood burning stove, it’s ideal for family or group of friends looking to explore the Northumbrian countryside and coast. Outside the cottage benefits from a large lawned garden with seating areas, a barbecue, and plenty of room for children to play.
The farm grows arable crops including wheat, barley, oats and oilseed rape, while a herd of beef cattle graze the grassland in spring and summer and are kept indoors during winter. The farm owners, who live nearby, are happy to show guests around and talk about modern farming, as well as point out some of the local wildlife, including hares, a family of deer, and a barn owl.
Lying within the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Beauty, Alnmouth is a charming seaside village with pastel coloured houses, a beautiful sandy beach, and the The Ferryman’s Hut, the smallest museum in the county.
A couple of miles inland is Alnwick, home to a Norman castle used as the location of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films and the Duchess of Northumberland’s spectacular gardens. Seahouses, half an hours drive up the coast, has a picturesque harbour from where boat trips depart to the Farne Islands, while Northumberland National Park can be reached in under an hour, making the cottage a great base for exploring the north east of England.
