Situated just under three miles from Camelford, Mallard is a beautifully-appointed shepherd’s hut on a family run farm. Set in a secluded meadow in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the hut is ideal for a couple or solo traveller looking to explore the Cornish countryside and coast. Guests should note that the hut does not accept babies or children.

Outside, Mallard benefits from a patio garden complete with a hot tub, fire pit, and barbecue with stunning views over the surrounding moorland. There is also a secure paddock adjacent to the hut, ideal for walking dogs.

A short stroll over fields grazed by cattle reared for Wagyu beef, leads to an independent brewery and bistro run by the farm’s owners. Housed in a converted milking parlour, the brewery is known for its clean ales made with local ingredients and pure spring water drawn from the surrounding hills. Visitors can take a behind-the-scenes tour of the brewery, followed by a guided tasting of its beers.

The South West Coast Path is directly accessible from the farm with a diverse range of beaches close by. Trebarwith Strand is a large, sandy beach backed by cliffs that’s popular with surfers, while Tintagel Haven tucked directly beneath a medieval castle has a waterfall, and a natural sea tunnel known as Merlin’s Cave.

Alternatively hop on a ferry across the River Camel for Padstow known for its excellent restaurants from traditional fish and chips to Michelin-starred fine dining. The stretch of coast is also excellent for watersports with surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, and coasteering available nearby.

Bodmin Moor can be reached in around 40 minutes known for its wild, rugged landscape, granite tors, prehistoric monuments, rare plants, and iconic free roaming ponies. Stop off for a pint at Jamaica Inn that inspired Daphne du Maurier, or step back in time to experience the life of a Victorian prisoner at Bodmin Jail.

Other attractions nearby well worth a visit include St Nectan’s Glen, Launceston Steam Railway, and the Eden Project where visitors can wander through stunning outdoor gardens and artificial biomes filled with plants from around the world.

Camelford has a handful of independent shops, a convenience store, and a welcoming pub serving food. For other amenities, including a supermarket, Bude is about a half hour drive away.
