Gallow Law Cottage, Bellingham

Gallow Law Cottage, together with its neighbour Shepherds Burn Cottage, is a beautifully converted stone barn set on a working sheep farm in the heart of Northumberland National Park.

Gallow Law Cottage, Bellingham

The earliest records of the farm date back to 1524, and it is believed a medieval pele tower once stood on the site before being demolished in the 18th century, leaving no visible remains. Nestled beside Chindon Burn in the Tarset Valley, the cottage enjoys a truly secluded setting, accessed via a two-mile farm track, ideal for families seeking a peaceful retreat.

Inside, the barn retains a wealth of original features, including vaulted ceilings, exposed timber beams, and arched windows that frame lovely views across the garden and surrounding grazing fields. A wood-burning stove provides warmth on cooler days, while thoughtful contemporary touches blend seamlessly with traditional furnishings to create a comfortable and welcoming space.

Thanks to sustainable farming practices, the farm supports an abundance of wildlife, including roe deer, red squirrels, and a variety of birdlife including ospreys, along with seven species of bat. The remote location also means there is virtually no light pollution, making it perfect for stargazing.
