The Cottage is a delightful farm stay set in unspoilt countryside near the historic town of Bideford. Adjoining the main farmhouse and overlooking the farmyard, it provides a welcoming base for families looking to explore the stunning North Devon coastline and surrounding countryside.
Guests are greeted by the farm’s friendly dogs and welcomed with freshly baked scones, homemade jam, and thick clotted cream, the perfect introduction to a traditional Devonshire afternoon tea. Inside, a spacious entrance hall has plenty of room for coats and muddy boots after a day spent exploring. A glass-covered water well provides an intriguing glimpse into the heritage of the building.
The open-plan living space is warm and sociable, with whitewashed walls, terracotta floor tiles, and wooden accents creating a relaxed country atmosphere. The contemporary kitchen is well equipped with ample storage and a full range of appliances, making it easy to prepare home-cooked meals. A farmhouse-style dining table is at the heart of the room, ideal for hearty breakfasts and leisurely evening suppers, while a handy utility room sits just beyond.
In the sitting area, plush sofas are arranged around a wood-burning stove set within the original fireplace and beamed mantel, creating a cosy focal point for cooler evenings. It’s the perfect place to gather for a film or curl up with a good book after a day outdoors.
Both bedrooms are designed with restful nights in mind, with comfortable beds and crisp linens. One bedroom is arranged as a family room with its own en-suite shower room, ideal for those travelling with children, while a further shower room completes the accommodation.
Outside, a small patio with outdoor furniture is a sunny spot for morning coffee while enjoying views across the surrounding fields.
The farm itself extends to over 100 acres, with a variety of picnic areas and barbecue facilities for guests to enjoy. There is also a large children’s play area with swings and slides, plenty of space for ball games, and a fun pitch-and-putt course. Five well-stocked fishing lakes are available on site, and clay pigeon shooting can be arranged, or guests can try their hand at the traditional art of water divining.
Guests are welcome to explore the farm and meet the friendly sheep, while in spring newborn lambs are a particular delight for younger visitors. The surrounding countryside is rich in wildlife, especially at dusk, when badgers, foxes, and both tawny and barn owls can be seen hunting in their natural habitat.
Nearby Bideford is a bustling former port town with a picturesque quay and waterfront, a medieval bridge, and charming Georgian and Victorian architecture. The town offers a vibrant mix of independent shops, cosy pubs, and modern restaurants, as well as historic markets where visitors can pick up fresh local produce, unique gifts, and artisan goods.
