Elworthy Lodge is a charming single-storey cottage set on a working livestock farm in the peaceful village of Bishops Nympton. Just a short distance from the dramatic landscapes of Exmoor National Park, it is perfectly placed for families or groups of friends looking to explore North Devon’s beautiful countryside and coastline.
The lodge is approached via a long farm track that winds through lush green fields before arriving at imposing wrought-iron gates, where guests are greeted by the farm’s friendly dogs. On entering, there is a spacious entrance hall with plenty of room to store boots, coats and outdoor equipment after a day spent walking or exploring.
Inside, the open-plan living space is light and airy, with whitewashed walls, vaulted ceilings, and French doors that open onto the garden and fill the room with natural light. The kitchen has sleek cream cabinetry paired with warm butcher’s block worktops and is well equipped with a full range of modern appliances, making it easy to prepare home-cooked meals. A generous dining table provides plenty of space for hearty farmhouse breakfasts and relaxed dinners together.
The sitting area is designed for comfort, with plush rose-pink sofas offering plenty of room for everyone to unwind while enjoying views across the surrounding countryside towards the moors. An electric flame-effect fire adds a cosy touch on cooler evenings, perfect for settling in with a film or enjoying a board game thoughtfully provided by the owner. At Christmas, the room is decorated with a tree and twinkling lights, creating a wonderfully festive atmosphere, especially if snow falls across the fields.
All three bedrooms are designed with restful nights in mind, decorated in soft neutral tones with crisp white linens and cosy blankets for cooler evenings. The principal bedroom benefits from its own en-suite shower room, while a stylish family bathroom offers both a bath and a shower. A practical utility room completes the accommodation.
Outside, the enclosed lawned garden has plenty of space for children to play safely and for dogs to roam freely. A pretty terrace with outdoor dining furniture is ideal for al fresco meals while enjoying the sights and sounds of cattle and goats grazing in the nearby fields.
The nearby market town of South Molton offers a good selection of independent shops, traditional pubs, and welcoming restaurants. Regular markets are still held in the town’s historic square, providing a wonderful opportunity to sample the area’s renowned local produce, from homegrown vegetables and honey to handmade sausages and freshly caught fish.
