Located just a mile from the popular seaside town of Whitby, Whalebone Cottage at Broadings Farm sits on a working sheep farm with lovely views across the North York Moors. Originally a barn, it has been converted into a comfortable holiday home with exposed beams, vaulted ceilings, brick fireplace, and a whalebone mounted on the wall. Ideal for a family or group of friends looking to explore this beautiful part of the world.
The cottage benefits from its own enclosed garden, and guests are welcome to bring their dogs, with a field available for exercising them.
Whalebone Cottage is a great base for exploring North Yorkshire. Take a walk into Whitby and climb the famous 199 steps to the Abbey’s gothic ruins that inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula, visit the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, hop on a wildlife watching boat trip with the chance to spot whales and dolphins, stroll through cobbled streets lined with independent shops, and enjoy traditional fish and chips by the harbour.
A little further afield, you’ll find picturesque villages such as Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes, Runswick Bay, and Grosmont. Scarborough, with its sandy beaches and family attractions, is just a 30-minute drive away.
The North York Moors National Park is on the doorstep where heather moorland, ancient forests, wooded dales, and a rugged coastline are dotted with waterfalls, prehistoric burial mounds, medieval abbeys, and pretty stone built villages and market towns.
Other attractions nearby include Ryedale Folk Museum, Dalby Forest, and the North York Moors Railway.
The village of High Stakesby has a convenience store, while Whitby has a supermarket and other amenities.
