Pit Paddy Barn is an 18th-century barn conversion set on an organic working farm that has been in the same family for over 200 years. Named after the neighbouring fields of Higher and Lower Pit Paddy, the barn has been carefully restored with sustainability at its core. Natural materials such as sheep’s wool and wood pulp insulation, lime plaster, reclaimed Cornish scantle slate, and cob sourced from the farm have been used throughout. Heating is supplied by a biomass boiler fuelled by sustainably coppiced hedgerows, ensuring a comfortable and environmentally responsible stay. It is well suited to couples, small families, or friends looking for a rural base from which to explore Cornwall.
The accommodation is arranged in reverse level to make the most of the vaulted ceilings and exposed beams in the main living space. Rustic details are balanced with modern comfort to create a relaxed, welcoming home-from-home. The compact yet well-equipped kitchen includes a full range of contemporary appliances, with a farmhouse-style dining table for shared meals. Steps lead down from here to the courtyard. The sitting area has generous sofas arranged around a wood-burning stove, an inviting setting for films or quiet reading, with books thoughtfully provided by the owner.
On the ground floor are two comfortable bedrooms and a well-appointed bathroom with both a freestanding bath and a sleek walk-in shower.
Outside, a shared courtyard is a sheltered sun trap perfect for morning coffee, and there are extensive gardens and orchards for guests to explore. The 110-acre farm comprises pastureland and polytunnels, home to prize-winning grass-fed Angus cattle, free-range chickens, and fields of organic fruit and vegetables. An on-site farm shop sells produce grown on the farm alongside locally sourced bread, cheese, chutneys, wines, beers, and much more. Guests can grab a coffee or gather provisions for a picnic to enjoy in the grounds, with footpaths winding through the farmland.
Six miles away lies the coastal village of Portreath, known for its rugged coastline, high cliffs, secluded coves, and surf-washed beaches. The village has a small fishing harbour, along a variety of welcoming pubs and cafés.
