Stribleys Barn is a thoughtfully restored 18th-century barn set on an organic farm that has remained in the same family for over 200 years. Once home to calves and milking stalls with a hayloft above, it has been reimagined with sustainability at its heart.
Natural materials including sheep’s wool and wood pulp insulation, lime plaster, reclaimed Cornish scantle slate, and cob sourced from the farm have been used throughout. Heating is provided by a biomass boiler fuelled by sustainably coppiced hedgerows, ensuring a comfortable and environmentally responsible stay. It is well suited to couples, families, or friends exploring both the north and south coasts of Cornwall.
The main open-plan living space is located upstairs to take advantage of the vaulted ceiling and exposed timber beams, enhancing the sense of light and space with touches of greenery to bring the outside in. The kitchen is fully equipped with a range of modern appliances, making shared meals easy to prepare and enjoy at the farmhouse-style dining table. The sitting area offers ample comfortable seating arranged around a wood-burning stove, an inviting spot for pre-dinner drinks or watching a film in the evening.
Also on this level is a bedroom overlooking the courtyard, along with a contemporary shower room.
On the ground floor, a garden room is a lovely additional living space, filled with natural light from a full-height arched window framing views across the garden and farmland beyond. A further bedroom with its own en-suite, also with an arched window, completes the accommodation.
Outside, a shared courtyard is a pretty sheltered spot for morning coffee, while extensive gardens, orchards, and footpaths through the farmland are there to be explored. The 110-acre farm includes pastureland and polytunnels, home to prize-winning grass-fed Angus cattle, free-range chickens, and organic fruit and vegetables. A farm shop stocks farm produce alongside locally sourced bread, cheese, chutneys, wines, beers, and much more. Guests can enjoy a coffee on site or gather provisions for a picnic.
Six miles away is the coastal village of Portreath, known for its rugged cliffs, sheltered coves, and surf-washed beach, as well as its small harbour and welcoming pubs and cafés.
