The Cart House is a beautifully restored 16th-century barn set on a 500-acre arable and livestock working farm in the tiny hamlet of Aston Eyre, at the head of the stunning Corvedale valley in the heart of the Shropshire countryside. Once used to store carts, the barn has been thoughtfully transformed into a stylish contemporary retreat, ideal for a couple, a small family, or friends keen to explore this wonderful part of the country.
At the heart of the home is a stunning double-height, open-plan living space, with original exposed brickwork and timber beams. Full-height glazing floods the room with natural light, while tri-fold doors open directly onto the garden, offering beautiful views across the surrounding farmland, bringing the outside in. Whitewashed walls, wooden stable doors, and stone flooring provide the perfect backdrop for carefully chosen furnishings, decorative pieces, and an abundance of plants, creating a space that feels both chic and welcoming.
The charcoal-grey Shaker-style kitchen, topped with a beautiful marble-effect worktop, is fully equipped with modern appliances and charming vintage crockery, making cooking a pleasure. Adjacent to the kitchen, a vintage mid-century dining table and chairs offer a lovely spot to enjoy home-cooked meals while planning the day’s adventures. The sitting area has a wonderful mix of seating, including a classic leather Chesterfield, a tomato-red sofa, and a rattan peacock chair, all centred around a wood-burning stove set into a feature slate wall. Colourful rugs and cosy soft furnishings make this a truly special space, perfect for relaxing together, whether watching a film or sharing a bottle of wine. Guests staying over Christmas will be particularly delighted by the Scandinavian decorations and twinkling tree.
On the ground floor is the first of the two bedrooms, with warm oak flooring, forest-green walls,, and touches of gold. The magnificent rattan king-size bed, dressed with vintage chintz cushions, creates a magical cocoon that invites a restful night’s sleep. The room is complemented by a compact en-suite wet room with white subway tiles, a black-and-white tiled floor, fluffy bathrobes, and luxury toiletries, creating a spa-like atmosphere.
A winding oak staircase leads to the second bedroom, a beautifully styled bohemian space with a show-stopping cane-framed king-size bed, surrounded by unique hand-painted furniture and treasured finds. Beyond a sliding door is a stylish en-suite bathroom with twin sinks and a fabulous claw-foot freestanding bath, perfect for a long, leisurely soak.
Outside, The Cart House has a fully enclosed lawned garden with plenty of space for children to play. A large terrace is furnished with a charcoal barbecue and rattan-style dining furniture with a gas fire at the centre of the table, allowing you to enjoy outdoor living well into the evening. There is also a hot tub, ideal for unwinding beneath the stars after a day spent walking or cycling.
To the front of the barn is a delightful wildlife garden planted with lavender, buddleia, apple and pear trees, and traditional cottage-garden flowers that attract bees, butterflies, and birds throughout the spring and summer. A small terrace with a bench provides a peaceful spot to enjoy a morning coffee in the sunshine while watching the wildlife and the gentle rhythm of farm life beyond.
The charming market town of Bridgnorth is just a short drive away. Perched high on a sandstone cliff, it enjoys spectacular views across the Severn Valley and is divided into two parts: the High Town and the Low Town. Spend time wandering its historic streets, discovering pretty houses and cottages, independent shops and welcoming pubs, as well as hermitage caves, castle ruins and gardens, and the remains of an old friary. Bridgnorth is also home to two distinctive heritage railways: the Cliff Railway, which climbs from the river up to the High Town, and the famous Severn Valley Railway, operating steam and diesel trains along a beautiful sixteen-mile stretch of riverside line.
A little further afield lies the RAF Museum Cosford, where visitors can explore the fascinating story of the Royal Air Force and the people who serve in it. The museum’s impressive collection spans everything from early biplanes to modern fast jets, alongside personal artefacts such as logbooks and lucky charms, all displayed across four vast hangars. The Cold War Exhibition is a particular highlight and the only place in the world where you can see all three V-Bombers - the Vulcan, Victor and Valiant. The interactive Flight Zone offers a range of experiences, including an exhilarating 4D Red Arrows simulator.
The National Trust’s Attingham Park is around half an hour from The Cart House and is well worth a visit. This elegant 18th-century estate centres on a grand Regency mansion set within 200 acres of landscaped parkland. Explore rooms such as the Dining Room, Sultana Room, and the Picture Gallery, famed for its iconic Regency glass roof, and learn about the Trust’s ongoing wallpaper and furniture conservation projects. Outside, the walled kitchen garden and orchard, dating back to the 1780s, has a bothy and glasshouses growing fruit, vegetables, and flowers, including the national collection of camassias. The wider parkland is also home to a herd of fallow deer, direct descendants of those established here in the early 19th century.
