Synod Isaf Barn

New Quay,
Ceredigion,
Wales

Why you'll love staying here

Synod Isaf Barn is a beautiful holiday home nestled in a small rural hamlet within the community of Llanarth, just ten minutes from the pretty harbour and sandy beaches of New Quay and Cardigan Bay.

Set on a 100-acre family farm, the barn has been lovingly restored to create a wonderful base for exploring this picturesque part of Wales. The open-plan living space retains many original features, including exposed stone walls, timber beams, and a slate floor. Thoughtful touches, such as a cowhide rug and animal print soft furnishings, add to the rustic, cosy charm.

The contemporary kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare home-cooked meals, with local produce and fresh eggs from the farm’s free-range chickens available. The dining table is perfectly positioned in front of a floor-to-ceiling window, offering lovely views of the garden’s bird feeders and the cows grazing in the fields beyond. In the evenings, light the wood burner and relax in the sitting area with a good book, a film, and a glass of wine.

All accommodation is on one level, and with one bedroom featuring an en-suite wet room and ramp access available, the barn is suitable for guests with limited mobility or wheelchair users.

Outside, a private patio is set up for al fresco dining with a table, chairs, and a solid-fuel barbecue. There’s also a hot tub, ideal for unwinding after a day of exploring. Set in a peaceful wooded valley, far from city lights, the barn’s location offers wonderfully clear night skies for stargazing.

Just a short drive away, New Quay is a vibrant seaside town with several beaches. The main Harbour Beach is a golden stretch of sand, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and building sandcastles. A wide range of watersports are available here, including sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking, windsurfing, wing-surfing, and powerboating. Boat trips to see the dolphins in Cardigan Bay or to enjoy a spot of sea fishing are also popular.

The smaller Dolau Beach, tucked below low cliffs on the opposite side of the harbour wall, has a mix of pebbles, rocks, and coarse sand, and best of all, dogs are welcome year-round. New Quay also has a lovely selection of independent pubs and cafés overlooking the picturesque harbour.

The barn provides easy access to the Ceredigion Coast Path, a particularly scenic section of the Wales Coast Path. Along this stretch, you’ll discover an abundance of wildlife, fascinating geological and archaeological features, and a rich, colourful history.

Nearby, the National Trust property of Llanerchaeron is well worth a visit. Designed by architect John Nash in 1790, this elegant Georgian villa has a walled garden, lake, wild parkland, and a traditional working farmyard home to a variety of Welsh breeds.
