One of a terrace of five, Lily is a stone cottage set on a family-run working farm in the village of Dunvant at the gateway to the Gower Peninsula. Arranged over three floors, with open-plan living space and three comfortable bedrooms, it’s best suited to a family or group seeking a peaceful, rural retreat with easy access to the coast. Guests should note that the attic bedroom on the top floor has sloping ceilings with restricted height, and although WiFi is available, due to the farm’s location in a deep valley, a signal cannot always be guaranteed.
Outside, the cottage has a small, private patio, picnic benches to the front, and an acre of lawned gardens with ponds, barbecues, and plenty of room to play games, as well as a shared games room. Cattle and sheep graze in the surrounding fields, and guests will have the chance to meet horses in the livery yard. They are also welcome to explore the 60 acres of surrounding valley and woodland.
The Gower Peninsula was designated the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is ideal for walkers and cyclists with the Gower Way running through the farm.
For a day at the seaside, the coast can be reached in around 20 minutes Rhossili frequently appears on lists of the world’s best beaches, with three miles of golden sand, dunes, towering cliffs, and the iconic Worm’s Head headland. In summer, you can watch paragliders ridge-soaring on Rhossili Downs while enjoying a picnic in the sea air. Alternatively, spend the day building sandcastles or hunting through rock pools at Caswell Bay. This family-friendly beach holds a Blue Flag award and has an excellent reputation for surfing, with a surf school on the beach if you fancy giving it a go.
Swansea is also about a 20 minute drive away with a wide variety of things to do for the whole family. Museums include the National Waterfront Museum, celebrating the industrial and maritime heritage of Wales, and the Egypt Centre housing the largest collection of Egyptian antiquities in the country. Swansea Indoor Market offers visitors a fantastic shopping and dining experience with over 100 stalls selling everything from antiques and hand-crafted gifts to fresh produce and local delicacies such as cockles and laverbread.
Nature lovers will enjoy the WWT Wetland Centre at Llanelli on the Carmarthenshire coastline with over 500 acres of freshwater lakes, reedbeds, ponds, and tidal lagoons that acts as a refuge and stopover for tens of thousands of migratory waterfowl and waders, alongside a resident flock of Caribbean flamingos.
