A spacious farmhouse on a working livestock farm lying in the Otter Valley with stunning views across the East Devon landscapes.
A traditional thatched farmhouse set in 470 acres of farmland close to the stunning Jurassic Coast, ideally suited to an extended family or group of friends
The farmhouse has a wealth of period features including exposed timber beams, vaulted ceilings, and flagstone floors, while in the sunny, country style kitchen an original inglenook fireplace houses a Rayburn.
For entertainment, there’s a games barn, a spacious lawn with garden games, and a children’s play area complete with a sand pit and play fort. The farm is home to goats, pigs, cows, and chickens, and the owners are always on hand to answer questions about the animals, show guests around the milking parlour, introduce them to the baby lambs and calves, and accompany them collecting eggs from the hens.
There are also miles of footpaths, a river for paddling, fishing ponds, and plenty of space for barbecues and picnics, with wonderful views across the surrounding countryside.
Despite its rural setting, the farmhouse is well placed for visiting some of Devon’s finest attractions. The coast is less than half an hour away, with wonderfully varied selection of beaches. Sidmouth is an elegant Victorian resort with pebble beach backed by red sandstone cliffs, Budleigh Salterton is a favourite with families due to its clean, calm waters, perfect for bathing, and at Beer, colourful fishing boats still land their daily catch on the shingle shore.
The wild landscapes, granite tors, prehistoric monuments, and iconic wild ponies of Dartmoor National Park, are around an hour’s drive away while Exeter with its magnificent cathedral, Roman history, underground passages, and lively quayside is around 20 miles from Hornshayne. Close by, along the Exe Estuary are several nature reserves and the area is nationally important for birdlife, particularly wintering wildfowl and waders.
The nearby market town of Honiton, famous for its lacemaking and antiques, has a good range of independent shops, art galleries, restaurants, cafés, and pubs.
Access roads to the farmhouse are single track so care should be taken, particularly around harvest time when you may meet a tractor. For those driving an electric vehicle, charging points are available at the farm.
