Why you'll love staying here

Garden View occupies the ground floor of a beautiful Grade II listed thatched farmhouse set on a mixed working farm in the picturesque village of West Buckland. Dating back to the 15th century, the farmhouse has been sympathetically restored to provide comfortable accommodation while retaining its historic character, making it an ideal base for families or couples exploring the West Country.

The picture-perfect entrance, with its solid oak door set within a stone porch framed by climbing roses, sets the tone for the charming interiors within. Inside, whitewashed walls, flagstone floors, and exposed timber beams create a timeless backdrop for stylish furnishings in warm earthy tones, complemented by soft shades of blue.

The spacious kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances and plenty of storage, while a large dining table provides space for everyone to gather for relaxed meals.

Adjacent is the living room, a welcoming and sociable space with comfortable sofas arranged around an electric wood-burner-style stove that keeps the room cosy on cooler evenings. It’s a lovely place to settle in for a film or a board game after a day exploring.

Both bedrooms have been thoughtfully designed for a restful night’s sleep, with hotel-quality mattresses, crisp linens, and soft blankets for cooler nights. Quirky touches such as bee-print cushions and wildlife artwork add character and reflect the countryside setting.

One bedroom benefits from its own en-suite wet room, a sleek, spa-like space perfect for refreshing after a day outdoors, while a separate shower room with a walk-in shower completes the accommodation.

Outside, a generous garden surrounds the property, with a large lawn, mature trees, and stone borders filled with flowers. In summer, the scent of lavender drifts through the air, attracting busy bees. At the front of the house, a terrace with outdoor dining furniture is a wonderful spot for leisurely al fresco lunches while looking out across the surrounding fields where sheep and horses graze. In spring, lambs are a particular delight for visiting children. There is also a hot tub for relaxing with a long soak beneath the stars.

The owner has stables on the farm, so guests are welcome to bring their own horse on holiday and enjoy the hacking routes that surround the property. There are also lovely walks to discover through the farm and nearby woodland.

The historic market town of Wellington is just a short drive away, with a good selection of shops, restaurants and welcoming pubs. The town also has a beautiful park and gardens, along with several attractive listed buildings to admire.
