Situated just 15 miles from Kettering, Alice Cottage is an accessible barn conversion on a secluded working farm. Originally built to house bullocks, the barn has been beautifully resorted retaining exposed timber beams with stylish, contemporary, interiors. A fantastic base for a couple or solo traveller looking to explore the stunning countryside and attractions of Northamptonshire and the surrounding area. Alice Cottage has been adapted for accessible use and is M1 and M2 compliant making it ideal for guests using a wheelchair or those with limited mobility.

Outside, the cottage benefits from a pretty, enclosed garden with panoramic views over the Nene Valley.

The farm is home to a variety of livestock including Tamworth pigs, who spend the summer on Towcester Hill, a wood on the farm digging for roots and grubs in the undergrowth. In winter, they return to live on the farm housed in deep litter quarters. There are also Shorthorn cattle and a variety of sheep which can be seen grazing in the adjacent fields.

Over five miles of footpaths, bridleways, and planted headland wind through the farm which supports an abundance of wildlife. Keep an eye out for hares, roe deer, foxes, pheasants, owls, thrushes, buntings, and birds of prey. Guests are welcome to take their dog along for the walk, but they must be kept on a lead to avoid worrying the livestock.

Northamptonshire is blessed with some of the best preserved stately homes and gardens in England. Highlights include Althorp House, the childhood home of Princess Diana; Lamport Hall known for its classic frontage set in 10 acres of beautiful gardens; Broughton House with a renowned collection of fine art, porcelain, and tapestries; and Rockingham Castle commissioned by William Conqueror as a strategic motte-and-bailey fortification.

Other attractions that can be reached within half an hour are Hamerton Zoo Park, Stanwick Lakes nature reserve, Flag Fen Bronze Age site, and 78 Derngate, The Charles Rennie Mackintosh House, while for motor racing fans Silverstone is just under an hour away.

Alice Cottage is also well placed for visiting Cambridge. Punt down the River Cam, admire the breathtaking architecture of King’s College Chapel, wander the world-class museums, and stop for a pint at The Eagle, a 16th century pub famously frequented by Watson and Crick while they discovered DNA.

For shops, including supermarkets, a variety of places to eat and drink, and other amenities, the market town of Oundle is a ten minute drive away. Guests should note that the farm is located half a mile from the nearest B road so a car is required to access Alice Cottage and for days out.
