Situated in the village of Kilkhampton, just five miles from Bude, The Old Ford Cottage is a charming rural retreat on a working smallholding with stunning views across the surrounding countryside.
Thoughtfully restored and retaining the original beams, the cottage is comfortably furnished to provide a welcoming base for a family or couple looking to explore north Cornwall and Devon. Guests should note that the kitchen is equipped with an AGA-style range which may take some getting used to for those used to cooking with a more conventional oven.
Outside, the cottage benefits from a large enclosed garden secure enough for dogs. The smallholding is home to sheep and free-roaming chickens and ducks, so if you are bringing a dog please ensure it is always on a lead. Guests are also welcome to explore the grounds with some lovely walks through the fields.
There are a good number of dog-friendly beaches near The Old Ford Cottage. The National Trust’s Sandymouth is a long stretch of golden sand backed by cliffs with rock pools exposed at low tide. It’s also a good place to spot dolphins and seals with plenty of birdlife too including peregrine falcons and buzzards.
At nearby Bude, the main beach, Summerleaze, is excellent for watersports with opportunities for coasteering, kayaking, and standup paddleboarding, while a semi-natural, tidal pool is a safe haven for wild swimming.
The South West Coast Path passes close by the farm with direct access to Widemouth Bay to the south, and Morwenstow to the north, rewarding walkers with stunning views over the Atlantic and inland as far as Dartmoor.
Exmoor National Park with its heather moorland, deep wooded combes, dark skies, and iconic wild ponies can be reached in just over an hour. While you’re there stop off for a cream tea at Cliff Railway Cliff Top Café in Lynton with spectacular views over Lynmouth Bay.
Other attractions close by include The Big Sheep adventure park, Launceston Castle, and Tamar Lakes with a whole host of outdoor activities available.
