Dairy Cottage is a thoughtfully restored barn set on a family-run farm and estate, enjoying coastal views across the Firth of Clyde towards the iconic Ailsa Craig. Ideally located near Girvan, it's a wonderful setting for a romantic escape or family getaway in the beautiful Scottish countryside.
Bargany has been in the same family since 1631 and, in recent decades, has evolved into a forward-thinking rural business with sustainability and animal welfare at its heart. Today, it is a mixed farming enterprise producing beef, lamb, arable crops, and silage, with a handsome 17th-century mansion providing an impressive backdrop. The main herd comprises store cattle and continental crossbreeds raised for market, alongside a Hereford herd and sheep reared for fresh produce and meat boxes. As a native British breed, Herefords are particularly well suited to natural, environmentally sensitive grazing.
Guests are welcomed to Dairy Cottage with a generous hamper of local produce and fresh eggs from the farm’s hens. Arranged entirely on the ground floor, the open-plan living space is bright and cheerful with a contemporary kitchen well equipped with a full range of appliances, making meal preparation a pleasure. A dining table and comfortable seating gathered around a cosy wood-burning stove create the perfect setting for relaxed evenings with a book or favourite film.
Both bedrooms have been styled with relaxation in mind, with soft neutral tones, crisp bed linen, and lovely views across the surrounding farmland. Completing the accommodation is a family bathroom with both a bath and separate shower, along with a practical utility room that provides useful storage for muddy boots and coats.
Outside, a small garden is a delightful spot to enjoy a glass of wine while watching spectacular sunsets over the countryside. Guests also have access to the beautiful Bargany Gardens, which open to the public for only a limited time each year. First planted in the late 18th century, the 40-acre gardens include woodland walks, a rock garden, a walled garden, and a picturesque boating pond. Look out for snake-bark maples, tulip trees, Chilean flame trees, magnolias, and an avenue of cherries, while spring brings colourful displays of rhododendrons, azaleas, daffodils, and bluebells.
Originally a fishing port, Girvan is now a charming seaside resort with a well-maintained sandy beach, a pretty working harbour, and a good selection of bars, pubs, restaurants, art galleries, and independent shops.
