Situated just under ten miles from Kirbymoorside in the heart of the North York Moors National Park, The Arches is a semi-detached barn conversion on a traditional working hill farm. Thoughtfully restored to retain timber beams, exposed stonework, and an open fire set in a brick fireplace. Ideal for a family or group of friends looking for a a quiet rural holiday in this beautiful part of the world. Please note, that due to the age of the barn, there are sloping ceilings in some of the bedrooms with restricted height.
The cottage benefits from a garden complete with a barbecue. Those bringing their dogs should be ensure they are kept on lead outside.
Sheep graze near the cottage, and you may be visited by the friendly resident ducks, geese, and peacocks. Children will enjoy visiting in spring to see the newborn lambs.
Mountain bikers and walkers will be spoilt for choice with bridleways, tracks, and footpaths leading straight from the cottage into the surrounding moorland and countryside. The beautiful Farndale valley is renowned for its spectacular spring display of wild daffodils along the River Dove, while the North Yorkshire Moors Railway takes passengers on a scenic journey through the park passing ancient forests, wooded dales, and pretty stone built villages and market towns along the way.
The Yorkshire coast can be reached in under an hour. In Whitby, climb the famous 199 steps to the Abbey’s gothic ruins that inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula, visit the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, hop on a wildlife watching boat trip with the chance to spot whales and dolphins, stroll through cobbled streets lined with independent shops, and enjoy traditional fish and chips by the harbour. A little further down the coast is Scarborough with sandy beaches, a water park, and a host of family-friendly seaside attractions.
The market town of Kirkbymoorside has a good selection of shops, pubs, and places to eat. Access to The Arches is via narrow lanes with some steep hills, and due to its remote location a car is required for days out and all amenities.
