Situated just over 2 miles from seaside town of Herne Bay, famous for its historic pier and picturesque seafront, Elm is a well-appointed cottage set on a smallholding and livery yard. Best suited to a couple or solo traveller wanting a peaceful rural break with easy access to the coast.
Well-equipped and with stylish, contemporary interiors, the cottage has wonderful views over the paddocks with grazing horses, ducks, and chickens. The area is also rich in wildlife and foxes and rabbits can often be seen in the surrounding fields. Guests should note that the bedroom has sloping ceilings and beams with limited height in some areas.
As well as Herne Bay, plenty of other beaches are within easy access. Whitstable is a long stretch of shingle with fishing boats and beach huts that welcomes dogs all year round. Botany Bay has golden sand and chalk cliffs and is excellent for swimming, fossil hunting, and kayaking, while Margate is a traditional resort with an amusement park, boutique shops, and the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery.
Canterbury can be reached in 20 minutes with its impressive cathedral originally founded in 597 but largely rebuilt in the Gothic style at the end of the 12th century. The historic city is also home to St Augustine’s Abbey, a free art gallery, Roman museum, riverside gardens, and an eclectic range of independent retailers, high street brands, and places to eat lining its medieval cobbled streets.
The village of Herne is within walking distance and has a convenience store, post office, and a micropub set in a former’s butchers, reputedly the smallest free house in Britain.
