Corsewall Castle Farm Lodge 1 is a stylish coastal cottage set on a working livestock and arable farm, ideal for families or groups of friends looking to explore the beautiful south-west of Scotland. The lodge combines contemporary comfort with thoughtful features, including a wood-burning stove, a modern, well-equipped kitchen, an integrated Bose sound system, and full accessibility with a wheelchair ramp at the entrance.
Home to dairy cattle whose milk is used to produce seriously strong cheddar, the farm has an interesting history. The ruins of 15th-century Corsewall Castle can be found in one of its fields, as can the remnants of the Drangan World War II radio station. On the edge of the farm overlooking the Irish Sea, stands Corsewall Lighthouse, built in 1815 by Robert Stevenson, grandfather of author Robert Louis Stevenson. An A-listed building of national significance, it’s still a functioning lighthouse, but also houses a hotel and restaurant.
The surrounding area offers an abundance of things to see and do. Enjoy scenic coastal walks, explore the sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs along the Mull of Galloway, or discover the unique microclimate of Logan Botanic Garden, where exotic plants flourish in Scotland’s mildest conditions. A visit to Castle Kennedy Gardens, with its castle ruins, two lochs, giant lily pond, and avenue of monkey puzzle trees, is also highly recommended.
For those keen on a day trip further afield, Belfast is easily accessible via a ferry from Cairnryan, which sails up to six times daily.
