Discover a range of family-friendly country cottages, barn conversions, farmhouses, and lodges set on working farms on the Isle of Anglesey. Many of these rural retreats are equipped with child-friendly features such as cots, highchairs, and stairgates, outdoor play areas, and a variety of toys and games to keep little ones entertained. Children will also delight in exploring the surrounding farmland, meeting the animals, and getting a taste of rural life.
Anglesey offers plenty of attractions for families to enjoy together. Highlights include Beaumaris Castle, the extensive ruins of Edward I’s “unfinished masterpiece”, often described as the greatest castle never built. Visitors can walk along the tops of the curtain walls and explore numerous towers, dark passageways, and a vaulted chapel, while the open inner courtyard frequently hosts family-friendly events such as medieval combat displays and jester workshops. Nearby, Beaumaris Gaol is also well worth a visit, giving a fascinating insight into what life was like for prisoners in Victorian times.
Animal lovers are equally well catered for. Anglesey Sea Zoo is home to more than 100 species of British marine life, including octopuses, lobsters, and seahorses. Alongside regular talks and fish-feeding sessions, families can enjoy a bouncy castle, crazy golf, and an adventure play park. Alternatively, head to Pili Palas, a small hands-on zoo where children will delight in attractions such as the bird house, butterfly house, lizard land, bug zone, and the popular meerkat tunnel.
Managed by the National Trust, Plas Newydd is a Grade I listed house with an eclectic mix of military history, theatre, and art collections. The property is set within 40 acres of gardens and 129 acres of woodland parkland, where visitors have an excellent chance of spotting a red squirrel. Families will also find a play area with a treehouse, a frisbee golf course, and themed nature trails.
Of course, no visit to Anglesey is complete without stopping at Llanfairpwll Railway Station to take a photo beside its famously long name.
Add to this a spectacular 125-mile coastline filled with beautiful sandy beaches and hidden coves, numerous nature reserves, and easy access to the stunning Snowdonia National Park, and you have the perfect recipe for an unforgettable family holiday.
